The Coach

            Tyree Cochrane joined Hancock College Boosters, Inc. as the Rodeo Coach in July of 2023, just after competing at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, WY that June finished in the top 10 in the nation for collegiate Breakaway ropers! Tyree is a San Luis Obispo native, where she also attended Cal Poly and studied Animal Science. In her time there, she competed on the college rodeo team in the barrel racing, breakaway roping, team roping, and goat tying and also served in a few leadership rolls. Most notably as the West Coast Student Region Director, and the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Student President. This unique position allowed her to learn from College Rodeo Coached across the nation and create a great network. Currently, she coaches the rodeo team, owns and operated TQ Equine, Inc. offering horse training and rodeo lessons, and travels to breakaway roping jackpots and pro rodeos.

2022-2023 Season – AHC Rodeo Team sent their first qualifier to the CNFR

            Sutton Mang, of Goleta, CA qualified to the 2023 College National Finals Rodeo, where she placed 6th in the Nation in the Breakaway Roping!

She put up times of 3.1 seconds, 2.9 seconds, and 3.3 seconds in the first three rounds to qualify to the Championship Round. Hancock College Boosters, Inc. was able to provide Sutton a $1,200 travel stipend to help her cover the cost of travel to Casper, WY.

2023-2024 Season – Champion Women’s Team at Fresno State College Rodeo

            Breakaway Roper Sutton Mang and Barrel Racer Paloma Alvarado topped the points at the Fresno State College Rodeo with wins in the Breakaway Roping and Barrel Racing! As top women’s team, they received a buckle that was gifted to the Rodeo Team Club Academic Advisor, Erin Krier for all of her help and support!

2023-2024 Season – Another National Qualifier

            Paloma Alvarado topped the West Coast Region in the Barrel Racing and represented Allan Hancock College Rodeo at the 2024 College National Finals Rodeo! The competition was fierce amongst the top 50 Collegiate barrel racers, and Paloma and her horse “Ella” were just out of qualifying for the top 12 Championship Round. Hancock College Boosters, Inc. was able to provide a travel stipend of $1,500 for the travel to Casper, WY.

2024-2025 Season – Inaugural College Rodeo at Santa Maria Elks Rodeo Grounds

            This season was one of growth for Hancock College Boosters, Inc. that included a brand new event – Spring RoundUp College Rodeo. This college rodeo hosted over 200 contestants in the West Coast Region from the following schools:

  • Allan Hancock College
  • Bakersfield College
  • Cal Poly, SLO
  • Fresno State University
  • Coalinga College
  • College of the Redwoods
  • Cuesta College
  • Feather River College
  • of NV, Las Vegas
  • of NV, Reno

The Inaugural College Rodeo was a success, and honored Vietnam Veterans during the Saturday Night Performance, and honored the late Jim Glines during the Championship Sunday Performance. This College Rodeo was Jim’s passion for the last few years, and we know he was watching and supporting the whole event! Along with tough college rodeo competition, we hosted local vendors, spectators, and a VIP experience. We are excited to continue hosting a college rodeo in 2025, now christened the Jim Glines Memorial College Rodeo!
