The Allan Hancock College Rodeo Team finished their season this weekend at the NIRA West Coast Regional Finals hosted by University of Nevada, Las Vegas at the South Point Hotel & Casino Arena competing alongside Bakersfield College, Cal Poly SLO, Fresno State, Coalinga College, Cuesta College, Feather River College, Univ. of NV Reno, and Univ. of NV Las Vegas. Freshman breakaway roper Molly Pole had a 3.4 second run on Friday, May 2nd to place 5th against 88 breakaway ropers, and win her first college rodeo check! Molly has been breakaway roping for a year and a half, and chose Allan Hancock College to rodeo under Coach Tyree Cochrane. Sophomore Cody French and his team roping partner Haleigh Grant (CAPSLO) – also a Santa Maria native – went 8.0 seconds to win the team roping on Saturday, May 3rd. Cody is planning to return to Allan Hancock and rodeo for another year.
The West Coast Region Coaches also voted our Home Rodeo – the Spring RoundUp College Rodeo Presented by Hancock College Boosters, Inc. as the “College Rodeo of the Year”, recognizing the hard work of Coach Tyree Cochrane and the great partnership of Hancock College Boosters, Inc. and Elks Recreation to host the West Coast Region at the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo Event Center! The Boosters and Coach Cochrane are excited to continue growing the AHC Rodeo Team with local talents Sadie Grant and Luke Stamper joining this Fall. Grant will be competing in barrel racing, breakaway roping, team roping, and goat tying. Stamper will be steer wrestling, tie-down roping, and team roping. Pole and French will be returning, along with team roper Blake VanStavern. VanStavern also had a great weekend winning the PRCA Rodeo at Riverdale, CA!
Hancock College Boosters, Inc. is very excited to host their annual dinner and auction fundraiser, now rechristened the “Jim Glines Memorial Dinner & Auction” supporting the AHC Rodeo Team on August 23rd, 2025 at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge 1538. Join us for a fun evening including a great dinner by Billy Ruiz of Cowboy Flavor and a Live Auction, all proceeds going towards operating the AHC Rodeo Team!
